This prize is named for our colleague and friend, Professor Ingrith Deyrup-Olsen, in honor of her unfailing dedication to educate and inspire biologists, teachers and future teachers of biology. This fund will support an undergraduate prize for juniors or seniors of excellence, or promise of excellence, who plan a career in K-12 teaching of biology.

The Ingrith Deyrup-Olsen Prize will provide funds that include 2 years of student membership in the National Association of Biology Teachers plus a check for $100. Junior and Senior undergraduates interested in being considered for this prize should notify the Biology Teacher Preparation Program, or alternately, the Biology Advisors of their career plans and interest by the spring quarter of their junior or senior year. Faculty nominations are also welcome. A committee of faculty appointed by the chair of the department will evaluate the candidates and select the awardee in May of each year. It is expected that this prize will promote outstanding scholarship in biology and that it will help promote future teachers in this field.

2009 Application Deadline is April 25. Prize will be announced at the Undergraduate Biology BBQ.
