Undergraduates If you are an undergraduate interested in conducting research in the lab, you should look through this website and read publications to see whether your interests align with ongoing research projectsin the lab. Be aware that ecological research (especially if field experience is desired) takes time - certainly no less than a quarter and generally 3-4 quarters. Undergraduates work or volunteer in the lab for at least one quarter (3-4 hours a week) before pursuing independent research projects or receiving credit for research. Please contact me (jhrl) if you have any questions about research in the Hille Ris Lambers lab. You may want to check out the following University of Washington research opportunites through the Biology department, the HHMI Biology research internships, and the Mary Gates Research Scholarship. I am often looking for motivated work-study student to help with research. Work-study students assist with data processing from Mt. Rainier National Park. Assistance with field work is a possibility in spring and summer months. If you have work study funds, please contact me for more information. Graduate students I take on graduate students with a broad interest in community ecology, with sufficiently similar interests to mine so that I feel qualified to advise them, who work well with others, and who have previous research experience. I provide graduate students in my lab with intellectual guidance in i) developing an interesting and important ecological research question, ii) executing the observations and experiments necessary to tackling that question, and iii) disseminating the results that research in the form of talks and papers. I expect graduate students who join my lab to strive to become creative and independent thinkers, to interact and collaborate within the lab, and to take an active role securing funding for their research projects. **NOTE I will only take on one, if any, graduate students for the Fall of 2010**
If you are interested in joining the lab please contact me by email and tell me what research questions you wish to pursue during your graduate degree, and why. Please also attach your resume. Check the Biology website for information on our application deadline. I recommend that all eligible graduate school applicants apply for the NSF graduate research fellowship (deadline in early November). This grant provides three years of fellowship funding. Postdocs At this time I can accommodate only postdocs who bring their own funding. Please contact me if you fit into that category. |
