Jennifer Nemhauser, Assistant Professor
jn7 at u.washington.edu
office: 206 543 0753, lab: 206 543 4845

Before coming to Seattle, Jennifer did her postdoctoral work in the laboratory of Joanne Chory. While there, she initiated several projects aimed at dissecting interactions between plant hormone pathways and between hormones and light. Jennifer did her doctoral work at the University of California with Pat Zambryski, studying the role of the hormone auxin on gynoecium development. When not in the lab, Jennifer loves to hear live music (so many cool venues in Seattle), eat great food (ditto for Seattle restaurants) and see sublime art.
Andy Chen, Technician
achen04 at u.washington.edu
206 543 4845

Andy received his B.S. in Molecular, Cellular, and Developmental Biology from the University of Washington in 2007. He eventually hopes to return to school, but is thankful in the meantime for the excellent training and free time afforded by his technician position. Andy enjoys building/riding bicycles, rock climbing, surfing, cooking (eating), and getting his thumbs green.
Cristy Walcher, Graduate Student
clw6 at u.washington.edu
206 543 4845

Cristy received her B.S. in Botany and Zoology from the University of Wisconsin at Madison in 2001. Upon completion of her degree she relocated to Seattle to work as a research technician first in Pathology, then later with Alison Crowe studying the role of chromatin in establishing and maintaining tissue specific expression during development. Cristy joined the Nemhauser lab in the summer of 2006. When not working in the lab, she enjoys rock climbing, hiking, exploring the beaches of Puget Sound and curling up with a book.
Jodi Stewart, Graduate Student
jodils at u.washington.edu
206 543 4845

Jodi received B.S. degrees in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Chemistry from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2005. She was converted to molecular biology by the fantastic training she received from Dr. Simon Chan as a technician in his UC Davis lab. She is excited to explore the interaction between light and hormones and wants to gain an appreciation for how plants use small molecules to initiate appropriate growth responses. Jodi loves to watch stupid movies and cartoons, hike the magical Cascades, play the ukulele, and is a novice naturalist.
Rachel Denney, Undergraduate
rachdenn at u.washington.edu
206 543 4845

Rachel is a pre-medical undergraduate at the University of Washington majoring in Environmental Health. Coming from Bainbridge Island, a small island in the Puget Sound, she loves the fast-paced city life of Seattle. Outside of school and working in the lab, she enjoys traveling, hiking, snowboarding, playing soccer, gardening and attempting to cook.
Edison Calaunan, Undergraduate
ecalaunan at gmail.com
206 543 4845

Edison is majoring in Cellular, Molecular and Developmental Biology at the University of Washington and is in his senior year. Edison spends his free time walking, playing badminton, racquetball, watching anime and reading manga with close friends as well as attempting to bake various pastries.
Alec Nielsen, Undergraduate
alecn at u.washington.edu
425 750 4182

Alec is an undergraduate majoring in Bioengineering and Electrical Engineering at the University of Washington. He is excited by the prospect of using biology as an engineering platform to study naturally occurring systems and to create new ones. Aside from synthetic biology research, Alec shreds guitar in a local band, and enjoys swimming in Green Lake, to the disgust of his friends and family.
Chris Gee, Undergraduate
