Andrej Arsovski, Postdoctoral Fellow
arsovski at uw.edu
206 543 4845

Andrej did his doctoral work at McGill University in Montreal with Tamara Western, identifying novel genes involved in the synthesis and modification of cell wall components using cells in the Arabidopsis seed coat. Currently he is examining cis-regulatory regions involved in the plant response to auxin and brassinosteroids. Outside of the lab, Andrej enjoys skiing, playing hockey, and watching as many movies as possible.
Anahit Galstyan, Postdoctoral Fellow
anahitg at uw.edu
206 543 4845

Anahit joined the Nemhauser lab in April 2011. She received her B.D. from Agricultural State Academy in Armenia in Plant Selection and Genetics. After graduating, she did her M.S. work in Crete in the lab of Panos Kalaitzis at MAICh, working on cell wall proteins in carnations. Next, Anahit joined the lab of Jaime F. Martinéz García in Barcelona for her doctoral work. For her thesis, she worked on identifying new components of the shade avoidance syndrome in Arabidopsis. Here in Seattle, she is studying how auxin and brassinosteroids interact at the transcriptional level. Outside of the lab, she loves to enjoy sunny weather, cooking new dishes and hearing nice music.
Chris Gee, Assistant Research Scientist
cgee753 at hotmail.com
206 543 4845

Chris is a recent graduate of UW with a degree in Plant Biology. He has been involved in research in the Nemhauser lab since the summer of 2009. He is currently studying the temporal and spatial regulation of hormone actions during early seedling development. Originally from the east side of the mountains (Yakima, WA), he is enjoying the change of scenery offered by Seattle. Outside of lab and school, he likes to spend his time riding bikes, wheelbuilding, and volunteering at the UW Botany Greenhouse.
Jessica Guseman, Graduate Student
guseman at uw.edu
206 543 4845

Jessica received a B.S. in Plant Biology and a B.A. in Spanish from the University of Washington in 2006. After graduating, she left academia for a while to identify plants in the woods. She returned to the UW as a technician in the Torii lab where she became especially fascinated with plant molecular biology, researching the role of a callose synthase gene in stomatal patterning. Recently, she joined the Nemhauser lab and is excited to begin her research in various aspects of auxin biology. Outside the lab, Jessica particularly enjoys backpacking in Washington’s mountain ranges, watching really awesome TV shows, traveling with her family, playing with her puppy, and 16 hours of daylight.
Jodi Stewart Lilley, Graduate Student
jodils at uw.edu
206 543 4845

Jodi received B.S. degrees in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Environmental Chemistry from the University of California Santa Cruz in 2005. She was converted to molecular biology by the fantastic training she received from Dr. Simon Chan as a technician in his UC Davis lab. She is excited to explore the interaction between light and hormones and wants to gain an appreciation for how plants use small molecules to initiate appropriate growth responses. Jodi loves to watch stupid movies and cartoons, hike the magical Cascades, play the ukulele, and is a novice naturalist.
Vincent Wei Liu, Undergraduate
liuw2 at uw.edu
206 543 4845

Vincent is an undergraduate at the University of Washington majoring in Biology. When not busy with research or school, he has his hands full with one turtle name Tommy, two puffer fish (Plado and Bubble), one pacu fish name Paco, eight goldfish of different varieties and a bunch of guppies—a total to 20 plus little aquatic mouths to feed.
Morgan Matz, Undergraduate
morganjmatz at yahoo.com
206 543 4845

Morgan is an undergraduate at the University of Washington majoring in Biology/Physiology. She grew up close to the University, right across the lake in Kirkland. She played competitive club soccer until college, and now participates in many sport leagues such as slowpitch softball and flag football. In her free time, she enjoys running around Green Lake and spending time with her family. After graduating, she plans to go to graduate school or study to be a P.A. (physician’s assistant).
Britney Moss, Postdoctoral Fellow
britmoss at gmail.com
206 543 4845

Britney did her PhD at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis with David Piwnica-Worms. Her thesis research used bioluminescence imaging to study the regulation of negative feedback loops in the NF-kB signaling pathway. Britney will be joining the Nemhauser Lab in October 2011 and is excited to develop creative new tools to investigate hormone signaling pathways in plants! She is looking forward to applying her knowledge of molecular imaging strategies to study auxin signaling dynamics. Outside of lab, Britney enjoys volunteering with science outreach programs, teaching, photography, hiking, farmers markets, yoga, eating good food, traveling, and watching cheesy TV shows with friends.
Jennifer Nemhauser, Associate Professor
jn7 at uw.edu
office: 206 543 0753, lab: 206 543 4845

Before coming to Seattle, Jennifer did her postdoctoral work in the laboratory of Joanne Chory. While there, she initiated several projects aimed at dissecting interactions between plant hormone pathways and between hormones and light. Jennifer did her doctoral work at the University of California with Pat Zambryski, studying the role of the hormone auxin on gynoecium development. When not in the lab, Jennifer loves to hear live music (so many cool venues in Seattle), eat great food (ditto for Seattle restaurants) and see sublime art.
Edith Pierre-Jerome, Graduate Student
epjerome at uw.edu
206 543 4845

Edith graduated from the University of California Berkeley in 2008 with a B.S. in Genetics and Plant Biology and a B.A. in Art History. Having gotten an early taste for plant molecular biology at the Salk Institute while in high school, she is excited to be exploring the intricacies of the auxin signaling pathway as a graduate student. When not in the lab, Edith enjoys poking around bookstores, traveling, watching her favorite TV shows, and eating great food.
Autumn, Undergraduate
amw45 at uw.edu
206 543 4845

Autumn is an undergraduate majoring in Biology and minoring in Environmental Sciences. She is interested in public health and intends to go to medical school after graduation. She is currently part of a team planning a new journalism strategy for global health news. She loves plants and enjoys learning about the physiology of all organisms. Her favorite activities outside of school include yoga, soccer, and reading.
